Seth Rollins takes a subtle dig at Universal Champion Roman Reigns
In an intense battle, the Royal Rumble 2022 saw Seth Rollins take on WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Rollins set the stage from the very beginning when he made his entrance with the Shield music.
In the end, Rollins won the match but via disqualification caused by Reigns, who refused to acknowledge Rollins’ rope break.
Rollins recently took to Twitter and posted a picture of him from the match having a nice laugh and took a dig at Reigns with his caption.
“Rent-free face.”
After the match, Roman Reigns smacked Rollins with multiple chair shots, and it was quite interesting as this spot was very similar to how Rollins broke up The Shield in 2014.
However, the plan wasn’t originally what WWE had planned for that match. According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio, The decision to have the match end via DQ with Rollins would be made to look too weak in the post-match angle.
“Essentially the original finish was that Roman Reigns was gonna beat Seth Rollins… Vince changed the finish was made to do all those chair shots at the end Vince thought that was too much to do Seth Rollins to destroy him like that.”
The report also said that Shane McMahon was really pushing to have Rollins involved in the men’s royal rumble main event.
“Shane was really pushing for Rollins in the Rumble, but when he did that beatdown the feeling was it would be really stupid for him to take that terrible beating and go into the Rumble.”
