Asuka defends her WWE Raw Women’s title against Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 37
Rhea Ripley vs Asuka might have been a match made up hastily for WrestleMania 37 but history could be made at the show.
Ripley is a former NXT UK and NXT Women’s Champion while Asuka is a grand slam champion in WWE.
Asuka has won the NXT, Raw, SmackDown and Women’s tag titles in her time in WWE. While the Japanese star has done it all on the main brands, it is Ripley that could create history.
Vic Joseph and Corey Graves were speaking on After the Bell during a recent episode and Joseph claimed that Ripley could achieve something that no other WWE star has achieved:
“If Rhea Ripley defeats Asuka, she will be the first woman ever, and I think maybe the first superstar ever, to hold titles on NXT UK, NXT, Raw and SmackDown.”
Of course, this would not be a grand slam achievement but it would certainly be history. Ripley has been on quite a rise since her NXT UK days and she defeated Shayna Baszler to win the NXT title.
A battle of two NXT generations
Joseph and Graves also brought up how this was a NXT battle of different generations. Asuka was undefeated in her NXT career and she was on another level when she dominated the show.
Asuka is the benchmark at the moment, possibly alongside Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks, but Ripley is the rising star.
She had been dominant on NXT too and her move to Raw came as a bit of a surprise. What was more surprising is that she got the title shot against Asuka on her debut night on Raw.
While some have questioned how Ripley could get the shot so quickly, she is one of the biggest talents in WWE.
Ripley already has WrestleMania appearance as she fought Charlotte for the NXT title last year. The Aussie lost that battle but that result could provide her with the Mania experience to get one over Asuka.
