The latest WWE release saw 16-time world champion Ric Flair being shown the door
The WWE have been rampant in their releases of late. Just a few days ago WWE superstar Bray Wyatt was given the axe. As if that weren’t enough, the promotion recently came to terms with the release of ‘The Nature Boy’ Ric Flair.
However, it was reported by Wrestling Inc that it was Flair who had asked for his release and was granted the same by the promotion.
Flair, considered to be the greatest professional wrestler of all time, had a career spanning over 40 years. He joined the WWE (then WWF) in 1991, and was an integral part of the promotion from 2001-2009.
He then came back to the promotion in 2012, as a non-wrestling personality. He was an integral part of his daughter Charlotte Flair’s early championship reigns.
According to the WWE he has had 16 championship reigns during the course of his career – 8 time in NWA, 6 time in WCW and 2 time in the WWF.
Ric Flair releases a statement on Twitter following his release
Flair took to Twitter to address his release. He claimed that all was well between him and the WWE, and thanked the promotion for putting him in the place he is currently.
‘Slick Ric’s message read:
I am officially able to respond to all the press related to my WWE Exit Request, which they gave me. I want to make it very clear to everyone that I am not at all mad at WWE. They are the only ones responsible for putting me in the position of life that I am in right now, where I am seen in the brightest light possible. We have a different vision of my future. I wish them continued success! Thank you for everything! Nothing but respect!
Flair was last involved in a storyline with Lacey Evans, but it was eventually cancelled after Evans’ pregnancy.
