Ric Flair reveals he thought he lost Roman Reigns’ respect for this incident in 2019

Ric Flair thought he lost the respect of Roman Reigns for an incident with WWE back in 2019 involving Becky Lynch

Becky Lynch is one of the most famous and accomplished female pro wrestlers in the world right now. It was after she was booked as ‘The Man’ that her real success came.

But back when this moniker was being suggested for, WWE and Lynch were at loggerheads with Ric Flair. It was Flair, after all, who was called as ‘The Man’ during his heyday.

He attempted to sue the company for it in 2019, a few months after Lynch started using it in 2018. The issue resolved in 2020 when WWE gained the rights to use ‘The Man’.

And speaking recently with Conrad Thompson (h/t WrestlingInc), Flair revealed that he feared losing WWE superstar Roman Reigns’ respect over the whole incident.

“I was concerned that I had lost the respect of Roman Reigns. When that whole ‘The Man’ thing went upside down, I had to file the trademark and whatever transpired, it means nothing now.”

Flair then stated that once he knew that it was not the case, he expressed his gratitude. This was because he did not want to be someone who was disliked by the locker room.

“I walked right up to him and said ‘Hey, it means a lot to me.’ You want the kids to look forward to you coming, not here he comes again. Especially when you have a daughter that is at the most elite position she can be in. You don’t hear Bob Orton at home, and Bob was a huge star, complaining about anybody. Let bygones be bygones and let it go.”

Flair’s most recent and most major involvement on the WWE screen in 2021 was his storyline with Lacey Evans and daughter Charlotte Flair.

He expressed his unhappiness with the romantic angle with Evans which would lead to WWE quietly suggesting ‘The Nature Boy’ had something to do with her real-life pregnancy.

But he obliged because he did not want to inconvenience anyone. For someone who is a certified WWE legend, Flair really seems to be conscious about his image within the company. Maybe that’s what has kept him in Vince McMahon’s good books over all these decades…
