Roman Reigns didn’t hold back when speaking about AEW star CM Punk
CM Punk was one of the hottest properties in WWE during the early 2010s. A majority of the top storylines in the promotion revolved around him.
However, following Royal Ruble 2014, Punk’s relationship with the promotion turned sour, and he soon announced his retirement.
A couple of years from then, Punk announced that he would be making his mixed martial arts debut soon.
He was roped in by the UFC. Punk made his debut in September 2016, and suffered a unanimous decision loss in the very first round of his fight against Mickey Gall.
2 years later he faced Mike Jackson at UFC 225, and this time lost due to a unanimous decision. However, the match was deemed a no-contest after Jackson tested positive for Marijuana.
With a sub-par record of 0 wins and 1 no-contest, Punk announced his retirement from the sport of MMA.
More recently, he announced that he would be returning to pro-wrestling soon. And, on the 20th of August, 2021, Punk made his AEW debut. He has been going strong since then.
Roman Reigns, the WWE Universal Champion, was recently asked about the scenario surrounding Punk joining the WWE (prior to his AEW debut).
Although, Reigns stated that he wouldn’t have said a no to Punk returning to the WWE, he didn’t see the former WWE star adding value to the promotion.
Reigns also took a shot at Punk’s UFC career.
Here is what Reigns told Complex:
“But I mean, on a personal level, it doesn’t do anything for me. That’s not going to elevate me at all. He’s older now. I haven’t really seen a full match. I’ve seen a clip or two. And to me, a step or two has been lost. Then also he got his whooped in the UFC. I don’t think anybody really believes someone 200 pounds soaking wet with no explosive bone in their body could ever really do anything to me.” [via Ring Side News]
