Roman Reigns will face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 in a Title versus Title Winner-Take-All Championship Unification match
Roman Reigns is the current Universal Champion on the SmackDown brand. He has held the title for close to 600 days since winning the title in a No Holds Barred Triple Threat match against The Fiend and Braun Strowman at Payback 2020.
Brock Lesnar is the current WWE Champion on the RAW brand. He won the title at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view last month outlasting 5 other superstars. Incidentally, Reigns became the longest-reigning Universal Champion beating Brock Lesnar’s record of 503 days.
Roman Reigns appeared on The Tonight Show. He was asked by host Jimmy Fallon what the fans can expect at WrestleMania. Reigns claimed that he has solidified his place in modern-day wrestling as the “greatest champion to be a part of WWE” and said that winning against Lesnar will put him on a level that no one can match.
“It’s checkmate. It’s time that we close this chapter and move on. You know, for me, I’ve been on the run of a lifetime. I think I’ve solidified myself clearly in the modern-day as the greatest champion to be a part of WWE. For me to get past this chapter of Brock Lesnar, I think it just puts me on a playing field, on a level that no one else can touch.”
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar won’t be facing off against each other for the first time. They have had a storied rivalry with as many as seven matches till now where the two have locked horns.
This was the first time the Tribal Chief and the Beast Incarnate went to war. This match was more memorable for Seth Rollins who cashed in his Money in the Bank contract when the two wrestlers were spent and turned the match into a triple threat. The Visionary took advantage and won the match.
Reigns and Ambrose teamed up to take out Lesnar for a while before the current WWE champion came back into the match with a superb display of strength. Reigns, however, won the match as he pinned Ambrose.
This match was brutal. All four wrestlers are known for their superior strength. In an intensely physical contest, Lesnar pinned Reigns to retain his title.
Lesnar would bust open Reigns with a flurry of punches with bare hands. Reigns fought valiantly but Lesnar got the W in the end.
This match ended controversially as Reigns hit the spear on Lesnar with the latter’s back towards the steel cage. Both men crashed out on the floor breaking the steel structure. Lesnar was announced the winner as his back hit the floor first.
During this match, the then Money in the Bank winner Braun Strowman was at ringside with his briefcase. Lesnar got too busy with Strowman as Reigns capitalized on the Beast to notch up his second win against the former UFC Heavyweight champion.
This match saw Paul Heyman tossing the Universal Championship belt into the ring with both men fighting to get hold of it. The Usos interfered and attacked Lesnar as Reigns took advantage and won after hitting the challenger with the belt.
So the head to head is intriguingly poised at 3-3. WrestleMania 38 will surely give us another spectacular match between two once-in-a-lifetime athletes. We also have a detailed article on all of Roman Reigns versus Brock Lesnar matches.
