WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns opens up about his battle with blood cancer
Roman Reigns battled with blood cancer ( chronic myeloid leukaemia) back in 2007, After recovering from the disease, it returned again in 2018 forcing him to give up the title to undergo treatment.
He returned after his second remission in 126 days of his departure from the company. Reigns spoke to ACC Network discussing his journey and the help from the LOS during his battle. He says: (h/t Wrestling Edge)
“Nowadays I think we’re in a totally different place as far as blood cancers. And LOS has done a great job of being on the forefront of that awareness and the research involved and creating all these different medications to kind of put a cancel to blood cancer. That’s what we’re hoping for to continue to do that. And also take care of the young children. Create medicines that will not have a lasting effect on their future, that will keep them healthy now and also throughout the rest of their lives.”
“To be able to team up with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society has been, man, it’s been a godsend to be honest. really shown and provided me a different purpose other than just putting smiles on faces. “
Reigns returned impressively to the WWE and turned into a heel character. He has since gone on to reclaim the WWE Universal Championship and establish himself as the top face in WWE.
Roman Reigns: The Face of WWE
Reigns began the ‘Tribal Chief’ gimmick alongside Paul Heyman and has taken it to another level. He has dominated every one in his path and gone on to establish a dominant title reign that can see no stopping.
Interestingly, Reigns was not welcomed by the WWE Universe as a babyface, despite beating John Cena at No Mercy in 2017.
Fans and WWE legends had called to bring this character change much earlier in his career. But, it seems that it is paying dividends now as he looks a colossus to beat on WWE SmackDown.
