Roman Reigns goes empty handed at the WWE Slammy Awards 2020
The WWE Slammy Awards made its much-awaited return after 5 years and helped fans reminisce the best moments in what has proven to be the strangest year for the promotion so far.
The coronavirus pandemic saw fans being removed from the arenas. However, the show still went on in these trying times and helped fans cope with the trials and tribulations that 2020 has brought into our lives.
The Slammy Awards 2020 recognized and awarded the superstars that contributed to making this a memorable year.
Drew McIntyre took home the Superstar and the Male Superstar of the Year awards. AJ Styles vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania 36 rightly took home the Match of the Year award.
Roman Reigns left empty-handed at WWE Slammy Awards 2020
Out of the countless awards, arguably the most famous WWE superstar went home empty-handed. Roman Reigns was nominated for 6 of the Slammys but won none.
The ‘Tribal Chief’ reacted to the news by saying that he was too successful and well-paid to be worried about not getting a Slammy.
Reigns was believed to be one of the favorites to win the Return of the Year award. The ‘Big Dog’ returned in August after being out of action since April 2020 due to the pandemic.
Reigns also made a comeback from leukaemia in 2019 and went on to win the Universal Championship this year. However, the award went to Edge, and most fans would not argue with that.
Reigns was also nominated for the Superstar and Male Superstar of the Year, both of which were ultimately won by Drew McIntyre.
While Reigns was a great contender for it, it was hard to ignore the Scotsman who was the WWE Champion for most of 2020.
Maybe next year Reigns has better luck and can land a few Slammys; not that he cares though.
