The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns has not been seen on WWE TV since the six-man tag team match he participated in at the WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view.
Roman Reigns is one of the top wrestlers on the pro-wrestling circuit currently. He is the reigning Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. However, after unifying the two world titles at WrestleMania 38 after slaying the Beast in Carnate Brock Lesnar, Reigns has not defended them.
He also skipped the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view which took place this past Sunday. However, fans will not have to wait too long to see the Head of the Table back in action. He will be defending the WWE Universal Championship on next week’s episode of SmackDown against Riddle.
How did Riddle earn a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship?
Riddle has been involved in a feud with The Bloodline for quite some time now. He had Randy Orton by his side for the initial part of the rivalry but the dominant faction took out the Viper a few weeks ago on SmackDown.
The brutal attack from The Bloodline on Orton has meant that Riddle has begun to despise the stable to a whole new level. The former United States Champion has even referred to Roman Reigns as “the tribal piece of trash”.
Riddle teamed up with Shinsuke Nakamura to face The Usos for the Unified Tag Team Championships last week. However, an injury to the King of Strong Style during the match meant that Riddle had to fight the champs all by himself. Riddle produced a valiant effort but eventually lost the bout.
This week on SmackDown, Sami Zayn faced Riddle in the main event with huge implications. If Riddle would lose the match, he will be barred from SmackDown but if he manages to beat Zayn, he will challenge Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship next week on WWE’s blue brand.
In a closely-contested match, Riddle got the all-important victory after delivering an RKO. By virtue of the win, we will get to see Riddle take on Reigns next week for the WWE Universal Championship.
