WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns to take on Rey Mysterio on WWE SmackDown
Reigns was set to face Rey Mysterio at Hell in a Cell this Sunday, but has now decided to host the match on WWE Smackdown.
Mysterio and his son Dominik were viciously attacked by Roman Reigns on last weeks SmackDown. Reigns lifted Dominik and tossed him outside the ring on the mat.
Mysterio is eager to get his revenge sooner as he requested a title match on WWE SmackDown.
This match is going to be the first ever Hell in a Cell fight on the blue brand. Reign has been defending the WWE Universal Championship belt since August 2020. He has faced Kevin Owens, Braun Strowman, Daniel Bryan and Edge.
Mysterio, on the other hand is one-half of the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. He is aiming to become a duel champion by upsetting Reigns. Reigns is the clear favourite and holds more experience inside the vicious cell structure.
The Master of 619 is going to fight his first ever Hell in a Cell match against Reigns. It is going to be a herculean task for Mysterio to upset the odds and end the dominant reign of the Tribal Chief.
According to reports, Reigns is not making an appearance at the HIAC event. During backstage discussions, there was a conclusion of moving the fight to SmackDown to keep Reigns vacant at the PPV. They said: (h/t Dave Meltzer )
”As far as what happened, there’s no involved reason that made any sense. The word we were told is that you can’t describe why, there were just a bunch of discussions on Thursday and the discussions ended up with ‘Let’s do it on Smackdown.’ As of press time, the plans were for Reigns to not be wrestling on the pay-per-view.”
WWE has no plans for Mysterio to win the title, but want to sell their man man as a heel even harder. This comes before Summerslam 2021, which will have a returning John Cena (rumoured).
The WWE has taken a bold call ahead of the PPV and we will have to see how it pans out in the future.
