RVD shares a hilarious story about an incident with Gorilla Monsoon at WWF
Former WWF/WWE superstar RVD took to his Instagram account to relive a hilarious moment from his past with Gorilla Monsoon.
Rob van Dam (RVD) shared a story where he talks about how he was offered a gig at WWF in 1992.
RVD then says that he knew he was there to make the other fighter look good, so he changed his attire completely.
That was also the birth of his iconic ring name, Rob van Dam. RVD said that he had done magazine shoots as ‘Rob van Dam’ and decided to run with it for the one-off fight.
He then wore his shirt inside out along with his blue trunks, let his hair down, and called himself Matt Burn for the fight.
After a short match with The Mountie, as RVD puts it, he ran into Gorilla Monsoon backstage.
The class of 1994 Hall of Famer then saw RVD and went on a tirade about RVD’s shirt. RVD shares the story in good spirit and remembers it as a pleasant moment during his early beginning with the promotion.
The photo also left no doubts in the minds of the few fans who had long speculated the identity of Matt Burn.
RVD, of course, went on to have a great career with WWF/WWE. While he joined WCW in 1992, ‘The Whole Dam Show’ ultimately joined WWF in 2001.
He went on to have 6 highly productive years with the promotion where he won almost every title on offer, before leaving in 2007.
He did make a one-year comeback in 2013, but it is probably his first stint that the fans will remember him for.
