Sami Zayn was one of the top indie performers but the late Pat Patterson cared a lot for the Canadian
Former NXT Champion Sami Zayn seemed to be hurt a lot after the passing away of Pat Patterson.
The WWE Hall of Famer was considered as the right-hand man of Vince McMahon and responsible for the growth of the company too.
Patterson had wrestled in several promotions before joining WWE in 1979 and grew into the backstage region over the course of his tenure.
The 79-year-old passed away due to cancer in Miami, Florida, and the wrestling world was saddened by his demise.
This week’s NXT also started with a tribute to the legend as all the staff and stars featured in the ring with a clip of how great Patterson was.
Former champion, Zayn, also spoke about the impact that Patterson had and thanked the legend for all that he had done.
Coming from the indie scene to WWE always leads to a lot of pressure on a wrestler. Zayn has faced that throughout his career but things came to a fore when he won the title on the Black and Gold brand.
Zayn spoke about how much support he received from Patterson and also shared an incredible picture from his title win:
“So much to say & so many stories to share about Pat Patterson. For now I’ll just say this, when I got to NXT, NO ONE was a bigger supporter, advocate, or believer in me than Pat Patterson. NO ONE went to bat for me more often than him. I feel lucky to have had him in my life. RIP”
Patterson also wanted to celebrate the win for Zayn and came out with the rest of the NXT roster. WWE officials told him to stay back but the Hall of Famer told them to get lost:
Patterson will go down as one of the greatest faces in the history of WWE, and we offer our condolences to his family.
