Sami Zayn congratulates Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura; claims he is still Intercontinental champion

WWE superstar Sami Zayn congratulated fellow stable-mates Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura on their SmackDown Tag Team Title victory this weekend at Extreme Rules.

Cesaro and Nakamura defeated The New Day in a ‘Tables’ match at the PPV event on Sunday night to become the new holders of the tag team belts on the blue brand.

In what was an action-packed bout, Cesaro powerbombed Kofi Kingston through two tables from the top rope to grab the win for his team.

Zayn still thinks he’s IC champion

Following the match, Sami Zayn sent out a congratulatory message to his pals on Twitter. However, what was interesting in the message Zayn posted out was the part where he claimed that they were all champions now.

Clearly Zayn is still of the belief that he is the WWE Intercontinental Champion, despite being stripped of the title over two months ago. Indeed, his Twitter bio still reads WWE Intercontinental Champion.

The Great Liberator had won the title after defeating Braun Strowman in a 3-on-1 handicap match back in March. He then went on to defend his title against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 36.

However, he hasn’t been seen on television ever since due to his reluctance to take part in the tapings because of health concerns amid the coronavirus crisis.

This led to WWE taking the title off of him. Following this a tournament was conducted to determine the new champ, which AJ Styles won and is currently the IC champion.

It is unclear as to when Zayn will make a comeback. But when he does, it will be interesting to see how WWE deals with this.
