Sami Zayn took a huge shot at Intercontinental Championship final on upcoming WWE SmackDown
WWE superstar Sami Zayn took a shot at the upcoming Intercontinental Championship final on Friday’s edition of SmackDown.
Zayn hasn’t been seen on any of WWE’s programming since Wrestlemania 36, when he had successfully defended the IC title against Daniel Bryan.
However, due to his reluctance to take part in the tapings because of health concerns amid the coronavirus crisis, WWE decided to strip him of the title.
The company announced a tournament to determine a new champion, the finals of which will take place this Friday night. AJ Styles, who moved back to the Blue Brand recently, will face off against Bryan in the finals.
Zayn has been venting out his frustrations on social media ever since he was stripped of the title. He had lashed out his fellow wrestlers soon after the tournament was announced, saying:
“With the exception of Shinsuke, these men have no self-respect, and it says a lot about them that they were willing to participate in this tournament to begin with.”
Building upon that, the Canadian pro-wrestler has once again hit out at the tournament, calling the two finalists, Styles and Bryan, frauds.
“Two guys who will put on a match that will no doubt be a wrestling clinic, to prove once and for all just who is the bigger fraud”, Zayn tweeted.
It is quite understandable where Zayn comes from. WWE permitted superstars to sit out of tapings if they felt unsafe to participate. However, Zayn’s decision to opt-out seems to have not gone down too well with the management.
Having said that, stripping him of the title and conducting the tournament makes sense in some ways, as it is unclear when Zayn will return. Furthermore, WWE will have a storyline readymade for him to make a comeback, whenever he decides to do so.
