The Women’s Tag Team Champions Sasha Banks and Naomi, who are often referred to as Boss & Glow, walked out of the latest episode of Monday Night Raw after the former six-time world champion had a difference in opinion regarding the creative direction of a match.
The main event of this week’s episode of Raw was advertised to be a six-pack challenge to determine the no. 1 contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw Women’s Championship. The six wrestlers scheduled to participate in the match were Becky Lynch, Asuka, Sasha Banks, Naomi, Nikki A.S.H., and Doudrop.
However, Becky Lynch went up to Adam Pearce backstage and informed him that she saw Banks and Naomi exit the arena. The on-screen WWE official Pearce modified the main event into a one-on-one match between Lynch and Asuka to determine the no. 1 contender.
Fans were left confused as to what had happened. They speculated if this was a kayfabe angle to eventually have the two arch-rivals Asuka and Lynch face each other in a one-on-one match. However, as per a report from Fightful Select, the Boss was not happy with how the six-pack challenge match was planned out.
The report states that Banks had a meeting with Vince McMahon. They could not come to a common standpoint at the end of the meeting. However, there was no concrete update regarding Naomi’s involvement in the whole issue. Naomi, in fact, was planned to be the winner of the match and she would have gone on to challenge Belair at Hell in a Cell.
WWE’s official statement regarding the issue
WWE issued a statement claiming that Banks and Naomi were informed about the main event match upon their arrival at the building in the afternoon.
It was stated that during the broadcast, Banks and Naomi walked into WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis’ office with their suitcases in hand. They placed their title belts on his desk and walked out.
The statement claimed that the Women’s Tag Team Champions felt that they were not respected enough. Banks and Naomi said they were “uncomfortable” competing with two wrestlers who were a part of the six-pack challenge match.
The full statement is given below:
“When Sasha Banks and Naomi arrived at the arena this afternoon, they were informed of their participation in the main event of tonight’s Monday Night Raw.
During the broadcast, they walked into WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis’ office with their suitcases in hand, placed their tag team championship belts on his desk and walked out.
They claimed they weren’t respected enough as tag team champions. And even though they had eight hours to rehearse and construct their match, they claimed they were uncomfortable in the ring with two of their opponents – even though they’d had matches with those individuals in the past with no consequence.
Monday Night Raw is a scripted live TV show, whose characters are expected to perform the requirements of their contract.
We regret we were unable to deliver, as advertised, tonight’s main event.”
WrestleVotes reported that the WWE statement regarding the Boss & Glow walkout “is just the baseline of the details.”
Asuka versus Bianca Belair at WWE Hell in a Cell
Asuka and Becky Lynch went head-to-head in the main event of Raw. Bianca Belair was seated at ringside scouting her next opponent.
Asuka and Lynch put on a wonderful match as both women had their moments. Eventually, it was Lynch, who shifted her focus to Belair. This allowed the Empress of Tomorrow to win the match.
Asuka versus Belair is certainly going to be another classic as both wrestlers are immaculate in the ring. However, there is a chance that Lynch would have a say in this match as she has had a heated rivalry going on with Asuka.
As for the Sasha Banks and Naomi scenario, we will keep a lookout for further reports and bring them to you as and when available.
