Sasha Banks and Bayley defended their WWE titles at Backlash 2020
Bayley and Sasha Banks did their bit to keep hold of their crowns at WWE Backlash.
The WWE Women’s Tag Titles were on the line in a triple threat match. The IIconics, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross, and Bayley and Banks were the three teams in the battle.
While each team did their best to capture the titles, it was Banks that came up with the winning move. She was able to sneak a pin during the match and ensure that the gold remained with the best friends.
The pair celebrated after their clash, despite knowing that they have to defend the titles next on NXT too.
However, Banks had some great words to say to birthday girl Bayley. Banks called her the GOAT and seemed set for more celebrations:
“Goodnight to the G.O.A.T only!
“Happy birthday, I love you @itsBayleyWWE”
Coming into this clash, there was some tension between Banks and Bayley. Rumours were doing the rounds that Banks wanted a shot at Bayley’s SmackDown title and that the Boss was just biding her time before setting up an attack on her best friend.
However, reclaiming the tag titles seems to have put those rumours to bed for now. Bayley and Banks posted several pictures of the pair celebrating a lot, and it will be interesting to see what is next for WWE.
They could tease a break-up with SummerSlam on the horizon, and that would make for a great story too. Banks has been a singles champion in the past, and alliances between top singles stars in WWE don’t last for too long.
Calling Bayley as the GOAT (Greatest of all-time) is a bit of a stretch given the quality of female talent WWE has at the moment.
However, best friends do that all the time, and Bayley has won a lot of gold in her career.
