Reginald was beaten by Sasha Banks in an intergender match on WWE
This week’s WWE SmackDown featured a rather uncommon type of event, as Reginald and Sasha Banks squared off in an intergender match. SmackDown Women’s champion Sasha Banks had earlier beaten Carmella in a title match.
The feud between the two also featured Carmella’s sommelier, Reginald. He had been a thorn for Banks throughout the feud, with the two even engaging physically during matches.
Banks had enough of him and promised Carmella a rematch for the title if the Boss had a shot inside the ring with her sommelier. The two shook on it, and an intergender match was set up on the Blue Brand.
Reginald started the match by offering Banks a rose. The champion replied to it with a slap, and this set the undertone for the whole fight.
Banks was the aggressor for most the match, with Reginald ducking and dodging her attacks on a regular basis. The match finally came to a halt when Banks locked the sommelier in the Bank Statement.
He ultimately tapped out and Banks got the win. And after the match, Banks had something else to say. She tweeted on her account that she is a winner, and to her, gender doesn’t matter inside the ring.
This was the first intergender match on SmackDown in more than 3 years, when James Ellsworth used to be involved in a bunch of those; especially against Becky Lynch.
This would not be the last intergender match that WWE would ever hold, but this also does mean that these type of matches increase in the future. Gone are the days when Lita could fight in the same team as Edge and Mick Foley.
Nowadays, WWE does well to adhere to the PG guidelines.
