Vince McMahon plans a return to Saudi Arabia after successful live events
WWE has planned to return to Saudi Arabia by the end of the calendar year in 2021, according to reports.
As per PW Insider.com, the company wants to have the event in the fall of this year. However, this is in the aftermath of easing of restrictions for the COVID-19 pandemic:
“With the world starting to open up and World Wrestling Entertainment beginning to tour again, we have been asked by several readers if and when the company might resume doing their Saudi Arabia events. We are told by company sources that the early expectation is that they will finally return to Saudi Arabia this fall, but an official date has not been locked in yet. The expectation is that they will run one event there before the end of the year.”
WWE has not performed in Saudi Arabia since the Super ShowDown 2020. It was organised in February 2020 at Mohammed Abdu Arena in Riyadh. WWE is in a 10-year strategic partnership with the country to develop the Kingdom’s social and economic reforms.
The company has enjoyed massive success in Saudi Arabia with a huge fan following in the Kingdom. The Sports Ministry will be looking to collaborate with WWE to finalizing a date for the event in 2021.
The first event held by WWE in Saudi Arabia was the Greatest Royal Rumble, back in 2018. It included legends like The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Cain Velasquez all together on the same night.
Saudi Arabia has also produced a rising star with Mansoor getting a shot in WWE. The youngster has risen the ranks quickly even facing Sheamus on WWE Raw.
WWE will be looking to continue the string of events after a long gap and will be looking to create one of the most exciting match cards in a long time. Saudi Arabia is slowly producing talents who could make it in the wrestling industry soon.
