Shawn Michaels praises WWE NXT star Dakota Kai and says she is mastering the art of pro wrestling
When two-time WWE Hall of Fame inductee Shawn Michaels endorses you, it means that you are doing something right.
And ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ was doing just that when he spoke to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated (h/t WrestlingInc) about NXT superstar Dakota Kai.
Michaels and Kai have worked together a lot at the WWE Performance Center and the former was full of praise for Dakota.
He used her NXT: WarGames match in December 2020 as an example of how good Kai is. She partnered with Raquel Gonzalez, Toni Storm, and Candice LeRae to take on Rhea Ripley, Shotzi Blackheart, Io Shirai, and Ember Moon in a match where Dakota’s team won.
“We have an incredibly talented roster, especially our women, but look at Dakota. She’s a special one. Let’s use the WarGames match as an example. Look at the a**kicking she took, bouncing around and getting back. That’s an art, and she’s mastering it. What you see Dakota doing, I always pictured myself in that role because I wanted to Ping-Pong around the ring for my opponent,” he said. “That’s one of the reasons I became who I became in the business, so watching Dakota, I am so impressed.”
Shawn Michaels praises Dakota Kai for enhancing Raquel Gonzalez on WWE NXT
And continuing in his praise for the New Zealander, Michaels mentioned how vital Kai has been in establishing Raquel Gonzales as an NXT Women’s Champion.
“I don’t want to say she feels under the radar, but I don’t know if everyone gets or appreciates everything Dakota Kai does and everything she brings to the table. She is such a workhorse. She’s really helped propel Raquel, and I keep going back to that WarGames match. She is unbelievable, and doesn’t think twice about the sacrifice that is involved and necessary. She works to the hilt, which is hard not to like and appreciate.”
Recently, Kai was by Gonzalez’s side when she took on Mercedes Martinez in her first defence of the NXT women’s title.
Raquel won the fight comfortably but Kai reacted in a bitter manner to Gonzalez paying respects to her fallen challenger after the bell rang.
The two now take on Blackheart and Moon in a tag team match next week as they look to get one step closer to challenging the new NXT women’s tag team champions, LeRae and Indi Hartwell.
