Eric Bischoff – a key figure who brought Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to WCW
Former WCW President Eric Bischoff is one of the masterminds of the wrestling business. He is the only man to beat WWE in ratings for 83 weeks in a row.
He brought Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to WCW. However, Shawn Michaels never set foot with his buds. Bischoff explains the reason on his podcast: (h/t 83 Weeks)
Eric Bischoff said:
“He [Michaels] was a basket case. Nobody in their right mind would want to bring that, especially to WCW. I have all the respect in the world for Shawn Michaels today, but I wouldn’t want him anywhere near me or my roster back at this point. He had issues man, he’s talked about them, he’s written books about it, he’s very transparent about it.
“Yeah, he was great but especially because we brought Scott [Hall] and Kevin [Nash] in [to WCW]. I was even more convinced that I didn’t want Shawn anywhere near WCW once Scott and Kevin came in. I mean it was hard enough as it was, could you imagine bringing in Shawn Michaels before he cleared himself up and got his head straight and he found god, found his religion and really cleaned his act up. But prior to that point? Nah, I don’t care how good he was.”
Shawn Michaels famously took a 4-year hiatus from the company, while his teammates were reigning on top in WCW.
The Outsiders vs Shawn Michaels
The tag team formed by Scott Hall and Kevin Nash was called Outsiders. They teamed up with Sean Waltman to form “The Kliq.” They were known as Razor Ramon and Diesel on WWF. After their move in 1996, they won individual honours at the organization. The duo have also wrestled on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
Shawn Michaels excelled in the legendary tag team D-Generation X with Triple H. The pair redesigned the tag team division with their top notch promos and in-ring fighting skills. Michaels went on to wrestle as a singles competitor winning the title on four occasions. He retired after losing a Career match against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 26.
