Sheamus’ Brogue Kick at WrestleMania 37 leaves Matt Riddle with a full blown lip
WWE WrestleMania 37 saw Matt Riddle make his first-ever appearance at the Showcase of the Immortals.
The Original Bro faced off against Sheamus for the WWE United States Championship on Night 2 of WrestleMania. What followed was another extremely physical, hard-hitting contest between the two, who pulled no punches before the Celtic Warrior picked up the win.
The crowning moment for Sheamus came about when he hit an airborne Riddle with a powerful Brogue Kick for the pin.
The finish received the loudest of cheers from the fans who were back in attendance for a WWE event after almost a year.
It was a momentous occasion for Riddle, making his debut on the Grandest Stage of them all, as the United States Champion no less. However, the night did end with disappointment as he lost his title to Sheamus.
Apart from losing the championship, the Original Bro was left with a lot of cuts and bruises following the intense match. In a video he posted on Instagram, congratulating Sheamus for his victory, Riddle can be seen with his lip fully swollen because of the Brogue Kick.
Riddle admits to have gotten his a** kicked at WrestleMania in the said clip, while showing his injuries.
“Damn. I really, really got my a** kicked this weekend. On the bright side, first WrestleMania, awesome! And it was a pretty sweet match until the finish when he kicked me right in the face.”
Following his match at WrestleMania, Riddle was squashed by WWE Champion Bobby Lashley on Monday Night Raw earlier this week.
His character might come off as goofy but credit to Riddle for doing some fine work in the squared circle. It will be interesting to see what WWE have next for him now that he has lost the United States Championship.
