Sonya Deville had been involved in a storyline feud with Naomi over the past few months. The tussle ended abruptly however and now she finds herself in the middle of Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey‘s rivalry heading into WrestleMania 38.
Sonya recently spoke with Superstar Crossover about style in WWE and how important it is for a superstar. She named a few wrestlers who have impressive ring gear and carry them well too.
“I love Rhea Ripley’s style,” Sonya admitted. “She’s always on the nose with her style, she’s very good at doing her. I am a big fan of that punk-goth/glam, so I love her vibes. Liv Morgan just comes up with just the cutest, most unique outfits, and she’s one of my best friends, so I love her. Then, of course, Becky Lynch just kills it with the eccentric, loud, obnoxious looks. Yeah, we have a lot of trendsetters.”
Sonya, as part of her on-screen authority figure persona, wears a three-piece suit on her appearances on Raw and SmackDown. She takes inspiration from The Miz and claims that if one dresses well, fans perceive the wrestler to be a superstar. The Miz also dresses in three-piece suits when he isn’t wrestling and looks quite classy.
“I am big on what you wear, and your physical is like your representation. So go out there how you want to be perceived,” she claimed. “Like, I am not going to be one that goes out in sweatpants ever, that’s just not my vibe. I like to go out and kill it to the nines and have everything.“on point.
“Because at the very least, if you’re on TV for 30 seconds and you don’t have much going on in that moment, they’re going to remember you looking like a superstar. I learned that from people like Miz. Miz always looks the part, he always dresses the part, and I think that consistency and that extra effort subconsciously resonates with the fans. Like, ‘oh, they’re a big deal.'”
Sonya deserted her tag team partner and real-life buddy Mandy Rose during an episode of SmackDown in 2020. She assaulted Mandy and cut her hair short. They had quite a feud with Deville as the heel character while Mandy received a huge push as a babyface.
They were scheduled to have a Hair versus Hair match at SummerSlam 2020 but that stipulation was later changed to a No Disqualification Loser Leaves WWE match. Mandy ended up beating Sony and Sonya took a little break from WWE and returned as a heel authority figure.
Sonya revealed how she would have looked if the initial stipulation was in place and she had lost. “It would have been shaved, I would have rocked a buzz. Yeah, that’s what hair vs hair is, I would have rocked it,” she said.
