Sonya Deville juggled the duties of an on-screen WWE authority figure and an in-ring competitor for quite some time. However, she was recently relieved of one of her roles.
The former Absolution member faced Mandy Rose in the 2020 SummerSlam in a No Disqualification Loser Leaves WWE match. Deville lost and was written off TV for a few months and returned in January 2021 assisting another on-screen authority figure Adam Pearce in making executive decisions.
During this time, she started abusing her powers. The former mixed martial artist focused her attention on Naomi and abused her powers to punish the former world champion. She would get involved in Naomi’s matches or change stipulations at the drop of a hat to deprive the former Funkadactyl.
She seldomly wrestled during the time and whenever she got in the ring, she had reinforcements in the form of Shayna Baszler, Carmella, and Queen Zelina to name a few.
Recently, Deville began to wrestle more often. She lost a match against Ronda Rousey on SmackDown. The 28-year-old also blew a chance to become the Raw Women’s Champion in a match against Bianca Belair. Deville changed the stipulation of the match twice and had Carmella and Queen Zelina attack Belair but still, she did not get the win.
Sonya Deville is no more an authority figure
This week on Raw, Adam Pearce revealed that the WWE higher-ups had performed an investigation on Sonya Deville abusing her powers and it has led to her contract as a WWE official being terminated.
Deville was in the ring set for a match against a mystery opponent when Pearce broke the news to her and the WWE Universe. She was in disbelief at the announcement.
Her night did not get any better as her mystery opponent was none other than the returning Alexa Bliss. The 5-time world champion squashed Deville who was left in tears after losing the match.
Deville is a good wrestler with an MMA background. She will continue being a WWE Superstar and hopefully, this would mean she would wrestle more matches.
