WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon teases Ronda Rousey return at SummerSlam
A WWE return for Ronda Rousey is expected at a capacity crowd at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada for the ‘biggest event of the summer.’
Stephanie McMahon teased the fans that former WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey is on the cards for a possible return. Rousey’s last appearance was at WrestleMania 35 losing to Becky ‘The Man’ Lynch.
Speaking to Yahoo Finance, she said:
“Ever since Ronda Rousey broke my arm, I have a little PTSD. I’m not sure you’re going to see me in the ring anytime soon. But I guarantee for SummerSlam, there is going to be a lot of surprises,” she added.
McMahon also explained the decision of her father laying off many WWE Superstars in 2020 and 2021. The released list includes writers, Superstars and various employees in the digital media department.
“I think like a lot of media companies, we’re in the process of transition and evolution. When you consider the fact that we had three different media teams really doing a lot of the same work, we realized that there was a lot of duplication and inefficiency. So it’s really just being more prudent business people and looking at our business in a different way,” she said.
Will Rousey be part of the WWE household once again?
Rousey is a dominant force in UFC’s history and continued it in WWE. She first appeared at WrestleMania 31 in 2015. Since then, she has created history becoming one of the three women to headline a WrestleMania.
However, she hasn’t been in the company for a few years but is still keen on facing some top names.
Rousey has also spoken about her will to face the current WWE Raw and SmackDown Champions Rhea Ripley and Bianca Belair. In an interview, she said (h/t Rajah):
“I really like having someone really strong that I can work with that I can use as a base but can also base of me. I would really love to work with Rhea Ripley. Whenever I work with somebody, I think, what is it that I could do only with them and they can do only with me. I think of one thing that we can do that is entirely unique in our match that only we can do, which there’s a lot of things I can think of for me and Rhea. Bianca [Belair] too, honestly. They’re both really really strong chicks that I feel like I can lift as well.”
Rousey returning to WWE would be a huge plus for them. The company has several top female talents. However, Rousey is expecting a baby with her partner, and it will be interesting to see if she does make a WWE return in the future.
