WWE Legend Stone Cold Steve Austin is reportedly to make an in-ring return at Wrestlemania 38 after 19 long years

The Texas Rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin, who used to be the face of WWE during the attitude era is reportedly in talks with the company over making his return during this year’s Wrestlemania. WWE’s marquee event this year is going to be held in Dallas which even increases the chance of the superstar returning.

Fightful Select first reported that the company was in talks with the legend on making his comeback to the squared circle ring. Stone Cold was one of the biggest stars of the late ’90s and had carried the company on his back.

The glass-shattering superstar battled through a series of neck injuries after a botched piledriver from Owen Hart at the 1997 Summerslam. Even after the injury, Stone Cold kept on competing and remained the face of the company for a very long time.

An in-ring return is still in doubt for the 57-year old because of his age but the company is in a deep pool now and is in dire need of popularity and ratings after the release of Shane McMahon owing to backstage complaints about his work producing a poorly-received Men’s Royal Rumble match.

Nearly two decades since Stone Cold’s last match and potential rivalry

Steve Austin had his final bout against The Rock at Wrestlemania XIX where he lost to him. It was Stone Cold’s final in-ring match although he kept on making appearances on WWE programming to promote events and his podcast, including at some recent WrestleManias.

Recently Dave Meltzer reported that a match between Steve Austin and Kevin Owens is potentially being discussed for Wrestlemania 38, which will take place over two nights on April 3 and 4 at the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. Owens is currently in a storyline that has him hating the state of Texas, for which a logical conclusion is Austin emerging to fight him.

An in-ring for Stone Cold could be the biggest thing that the company can promote owing to its love of bringing back legends. The reports could be true as the company is hoping to proclaim a crowd bigger than WrestleMania 32’s 101,763.
