Booker T recalls his strife with WWE stars William Regal and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin back in the day

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin was the first star Booker T had a feud with when he joined WWE in the early 2000s. And as it turned out, it was one of the most memorable ones of his career too.

Speaking on the Hall of Fame podcast earlier this year, Austin even revealed he tried to knock out Booker T inside the ring during that feud.

“Booker hauled off and hit me with that big a** right hand of his. I mean, he knocked the trash out of me. I am normally very, very forgiving but when guys start throwing potatoes. He lit me up so hard, instant rage came across me and I sent a receipt, like A.S.A.P. Micro process, here it comes, and I threw it with everything I had. The problem is that this arm doesn’t straighten out all the way. He was just back far enough that I couldn’t connect with him- but I was trying to knock his ass out.”

So, you can tell that things were not always the most civil and friendly between two of the most iconic WWE wrestlers of that era.

But earlier this week, King Booker also recalled how some of the WWE wrestlers, including Stone Cold Steve Austin, had a problem with him for calling himself one of the top 5 wrestlers in the world.

Talking with Brad Gilmore on the latest edition of the HOF Podcast, Booker said:

“Well, he (William Regal) had an issue with me saying I’m one of the top five workers in the world. Lot of guys, you know, Stone Cold Steve Austin, he brought that up. A lot of guys rubbed the wrong way, I think, in the locker room.”

Booker T made those comments during his earlier days and it was when he did not have a world title under his belt. And that is why he seemed to understand why people would have had a problem with it.

“Me being a brash, young guy saying I was one of the top five workers in the world at that time and hadn’t won a world title yet. Well, I had won tag team gold but I hadn’t won singles gold or anything like that. I still was saying I was one of the top five workers in the world.”

Nevertheless, he went on to say that he proved his worth inside the ring as time passed. He has been inducted in the Hall of Fame twice and is considered by many as the best to ever do it in the past 2 decades.
