The Riott Squad were an integral part of the WWE from 2017-2019

The Riott Squad comprising of Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan wreaked havoc on the 21st of November 2017 episode of SmackDown Live.

Ruby Riott who had been a part of the WWE NXT for a long time made her main roster debut that night, alongside Morgan and Logan. The trio attacked Becky Lynch and Naomi.

That same night they interrupted a fight between then SmackDown Women’s champion Charlotte Flair and Natalya.

The Riott Squad took off that very day, and in just 5 months the trio were drafted to the red brand.

The trio fought in several high-profile matches. Although they weren’t victorious in the marquee matches, they never failed to put on a show.

During the WWE Superstars draft in April 2019, Morgan was moved to the blue brand, which resulted in the disbandment of the trio.

However, the group, this time – Liv Morgan and Ruby Riott reunited in 2020. Although they weren’t as successful as the last time, they did have significant impact in the promotion.

Following Riott’s release on the 2nd of June, earlier this month, The Riott Squad was disbanded once again.

Ruby Riott reveals Suicide Squad prompted WWE Boss to keep their faction for longer

In a recent interaction with Wrestling Perspective Podcast, Riott opened up about the Riott Squad. She divulged that the faction wasn’t supposed to last for even 6 weeks.

But they turned out to be a very successful faction since WWE CEO Vince McMahon was inspired by the 2016 movie Suicide Squad.

Riott was quoted as saying:

“From what I understand, we weren’t supposed to last more than six weeks. It was supposed to be like an entry and then we’d go our separate ways. We didn’t change anything about our characters to adhere to each other, we just stayed ourselves. What ended up happening was those three very different characters ended working well together and in contrast, so they kept us together. It’s one of the most amazing parts of my career, working with those girls. Since it wasn’t supposed to go anywhere, we were able to morph it into what we thought it should be. I was also told that [Vince McMahon] had seen Suicide Squad and he wanted a Joker, a Harley Quinn, and a beast. Then, the Riott Squad was born. I don’t know how much truth there was to that, it was a rumor, but I wouldn’t doubt it. A lot of my career was right place right time.” [via fightful]
