Sammy Guevara and Sasha Banks issued statements after controversial comments were made in 2016

WWE star Sasha Banks and suspended AEW star Sammy Guevara have both taken to Twitter to address the controversial comments that Guevara made back in 2016.

Appearing on The Whole F’N Show’s January 25, 2016 edition of their RAW’s 4th Hour podcast, Guevara recalled how he had seen Banks while working as an extra at a WWE taping in Texas.

“Bro, Sasha Banks… oh my God. When I was at the WWE the other week I wanted to just go f**king r*pe that woman,” Guevara said on air.

Sammy Guevara has been suspended by AEW (AEW)

These comments resurfaced recently, amid a flurry of sexual harassment allegations that have rocked the wrestling world. Following this Guevara was suspended by AEW.

Guevara apologizes to Banks for his comments

Guevara, after being handed the suspension, took to Twitter to issue an apology, claiming that he will never be able to forgive himself for the comments he had made.

The now-suspended AEW star also revealed that he had spoken to Sasha Banks over the matter and thanked her for helping him learn a message.

“I’ve made stupid, inappropriate and extremely offensive comments in my past. In my idiotic mind, I thought I was being funny in using words and terms that represent nothing but horror and pain. I am truly sorry for my hurtful words and actions, and I will never forgive myself.”

Banks issues a statement on the matter

Banks, too, issued a statement in the aftermath of the incident, claiming that she had had an open discussion with Guevara over how words like this, said jokingly or not, had no place in our society.

“I don’t condone or tolerate this kind of behavior. What one thinks is just a side comment can have a massive impact on someone else’s life. And can send the wrong message. We have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions and the words we say. And I hope this situation shows him that.”

The entire issue has come out during the #SpeakingOut movement. Many indie stars have shared sexual harassment and abuse claims from top wrestlers. It all started with the British wrestling scene a few days back. WWE even released Jack Gallagher from the company.

Other stars have also been called out such as Joey Ryan while WWE star El Ligero was also named by one of the female wrestlers.

Most of the WWE stars have come out in support for those sharing their stories, and hopefully, such incidents are completely eradicated from the wrestling business.
