Tamina Snuka and Natalya won their first WWE Women’s tag titles after defeating Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler
It is very rare for a WWE title to change hands leading up to a PPV event. However, that is exactly what happened on this week’s SmackDown with Tamina Snuka and Natalya challenging for the Women’s tag titles.
Tamina and Natalya battled Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax for the gold at WrestleMania 37. They won a tag-team turmoil match but couldn’t defeat the champions at the grandest stage of them all.
Many fans were upset as to why WWE didn’t change the titles then, especially after so much hard work was put in by the pair.
However, that all was put in the past as Tamina and Natalya finally won the gold on Friday. The pair had been feuding with the champions since WrestleMania 37 and they were emotional after the win.
Tamina then posted a message on her Twitter account and thanked the WWE Universe for believing in them.
This was quite a historic moment for Tamina as the tag title belts were her second title in WWE. She is a former 24/7 Champion but winning this gold makes her championship status more legitimate.
Tamina is 43 and the emotions did get the better of her. She had been grinding in WWE for a long time and getting some form of recognition in terms of a belt certainly is the least she deserves.
Natalya, for her part, is a former Divas and SmackDown Women’s Champion. However, the Canadian had been put on the sidelines with the rise of other stars such as Sasha Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch and more.
This was also Natalya’s first WWE Women’s Tag title win, and it is to be seen if the pair have to defend the gold at WrestleMania Backlash.
