Young Rock is making history and The Rock is loving it

The Rock has been vigorously promoting a show named ‘Young Rock’ in the past few weeks. If you have been living under a rock all this while (no pun intended), the show is based on the life of a young Dwayne Johnson.

It depicts his life as a kid and lets fans see what made The Rock into the superstar that he is today. The show airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.

With a global following for his exploits in the entertainment industry inside and outside the ring, the show was always supposed to do well. But it has exceeded expectations.

NBC, the network broadcasting it, saw the show’s 16th February premier get massive numbers. In fact, it had the largest digital launch on any NBC comedy series.

Around 11.8 million viewers (h/t The Wrap) tuned in for the show’s premiere across the NBC app, Hulu, and Peacock.

The Rock shares his joy at Young Rock breaking launch records

Cracking those number son launch is certainly a cause for celebration. And Dwayne Johnson himself shared what it means to him.

The former WWE wrestler shared the tweet that mentioned the show’s achievement and thanked the people that made it happen.

“Just seeing this. Thank you, thank you, thank you. In this crazy evolving landscape – the biggest digital launch of any NBC comedy – ever – is a big deal. I think it’s a reflection of multi-generations coming together. So so grateful. #YoungRock

He ended his caption on an insightful note where he posited that this may be a signal of different generations coming together to learn more about each other.

The show even features WWE icons like Randy Savage, who Johnson cited as one of his childhood heroes. But more importantly, it shows the life of an ordinary Nova Scotian-Samoan kid who made it so big despite the hurdles in front of him.
