Roman Reigns is one of the best heel wrestlers in a long time in WWE
Fans got their long-awaited heel turn for Roman Reigns when The Big Dog attacked Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt after their WWE Universal Championship match at SummerSlam 2020.
This was further confirmed when The Head of the Table aligned with Paul Heyman. Truthfully speaking, wrestling fans never really liked the babyface Roman Reigns.
Despite portraying a good character during the start of his career, fans felt like he was being jammed down their throats. Nevertheless, Reigns has gone on to become one of the most popular and successful wrestlers of this generation.
The three-time WWE Champion has been in countless main events, and rightly so. His ability and on-screen enigma is hard to match. Moreover, fans now see him in the same light as John Cena or Ric Flair when it comes to popularity.
Speaking on this week’s episode of the Busted Open Podcast, Tommy Dreamer paid Roman Reigns the highest compliment by comparing him to Ric Flair.
“There’s only been… two people that are main event-ers and have stayed at that main-event level as well as elevating everybody around them. The first was the Nature Boy Ric Flair… and Roman Reigns is that guy now.”
Dreamer states that Roman Reigns has been that main event-er for quite some time now. But, there is something different about him as a heel.
“Roman Reigns does it with everybody, he’s been doing it for quite some time. But now as a heel, it’s been something different.”
He cited an example of the Steel Cage match with Kevin Owens on SmackDown. Dreamer said that KO has been in WWE for a while, but that match made Kevin Owens.
The other name that was spoken about doing the same was Chris Jericho. Y2J moved to AEW after a long stint in WWE and has been doing a great job, even if he isn’t fighting for the top title.
