Former WE superstar CM Punk could have joined Impact Wrestling
The CM Punk we have come to adore for his time at WWE could have been wrestling at Impact Wrestling had things gone to plan.
Tommy Dreamer was on the Busted Open podcast this week. And the former WWE wrestler revealed that he tried to get CM Punk to Impact Wrestling a few years back.
He said he offered him a million dollars for one match, but the negotiations fell through because ‘The Best in the World’ was not interested.
“I tried to get CM Punk to come to Impact Wrestling. And he was offered, I kind of messed up the deal, because I offered him a million dollars for one match, and it was a million dollars for 4 matches, but I just old million dollars, so they were kind of happy that you said no.”
He added that Punk was just not interested and he was a little thankful that he rejected his offer because that would have meant a big financial loss for the promotion.
Where did CM Punk go after WWE?
Punk rarely wrestled after his time with the promotion ended. By January 2014, things turned sour between him and WWE and he announced his retirement.
His next 4 years went into training for, and fighting in, the UFC. He fought in 2 professional matches at the MMA promotion and lost both his fights.
He then joined Cage Fury Fighting Championships (a UFC affiliate) as a commentator which is where he is currently working.
Punk did make cameo appearances for other wrestling promotions, but that was as far as his professional wrestling return went.
Dreamer himself wrestles at Impact and it would have been great to see Punk there. He didn’t give a timeline of the deal but it could have been after 2018 when he made his return to the promotion.
Nevertheless, Punk has made a big name for himself and would probably not regret how things have gone for him since he left WWE.
