Edge took an 8-year hiatus from WWE in 2011 after a serious injury
WWE superstar Edge grabbed headlines again last week as made his return to the promotion at the Royal Rumble.
Unlike last year, The Rated R Superstar won the event this time after coming in at #1. His face after the win told the whole story and what WWE means to him.
After all, his career was threatened a decade back due to a neck injury. But against all odds, he came back and is now primed to fight in a title match at WrestleMania 37.
And speaking this week on the Busted Open podcast, former WWE wrestler Tommy Dreamer shares the hard work that Edge put inside his wrestling career during his first stint with the promotion.
Dreamer mentions that he had travelled to multiple shows with Edge when the two were in WWE together. He adds that the four-time WWE champion worked himself to exhaustion on a daily basis.
“It was Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, we’re on the road. I would call it ‘Skeletor’, because it looked like his face would go back into his own head. I would also see his fingers cripple up into little balls of fist, where he looked like he was sleeping in pain as I’m driving the car.”
The hard work that went behind Edge being a WWE Hall of Famer
Dreamer says that Edge would barely get any sleep and was already preparing to put in extra work the next day.
The work required them to check-in at 1 P.M. the next day, but Edge was already planning to do media at 7 A.M. the next morning.
“We’re checking into a hotel 3, 4’o clock in the morning. You have no clue the toll that takes on a person, and to see him come back from what he has…”
Dreamer’s account of Edge’s work during WWE shows just showcases the hard work that goes behind being one of the top wrestlers in the promotion.
It is wonderful to see him come back and perform (almost) at the same level as he did a decade back.
He now has the chance to reach the top of the mountain again. Edge can challenge any of the top champions at WrestleMania but he hasn’t made a decision yet on who he faces.
