“Incorrect” – Tony Khan denies AEW offering NXT Triple Crown Champion contract

AEW CEO Tony Khan claimed that the AEW have not approached Adam Cole regarding a new contract

The future of Adam Cole, the longest-reigning NXT Champion of all time (396 days between 2019 June and 2020 July), looks uncertain.

His WWE contract expired a couple of weeks ago in July. However, it was reported that he had signed a contract extension that would see him past WWE SummerSlam that takes place on the 21st of August.

In the midst of this, came another rumor from Wrestling Observer that AEW CEO Tony Khan had reached out to him, and offered a new AEW contract. And it was also learned that Cole was simultaneously negotiating a contract extension with the NXT as well.

The latest development is that the AEW have made no contact with Adam Cole, and the rumors of Khan offering him a new contract is false.

Khan himself confirmed the same to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, who later tweeted:

Adam Cole to face Kyle O’Reilly next

Adam Cole will be taking on Kyle O’Reilly at NXT Takeover 36 next week, during the weekend of SummerSlam 2021.

It is said to be a face-off segment, primarily due to what happened last week on NXT.

Cole who was scheduled to face Bronson Reed, pinned him and won the match, after which he was beaten up badly by O’Reilly.
