Team Shotzi vs. Team Candice kicked off WarGames 2020
WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2020 was inaugurated with the women’s WarGames match between Team Candice (Candice LeRae, Dakota Kai, Toni Storm, and Raquel Gonzalez) and Team Shotzi (Shotzi Blackheart, Rhea Ripley, Ember Moon and Io Shirai).
Kai and Moon kicked off the match until the other participants entered at regular intervals. The WarGames portion of the fight could only begin until the last fighter, which happened to be Io Shirai, had entered the ring.
The match was won by Team Candice as Raquel Gonalez pinned NXT Women’s Champion Io Sharai after power-bombing her through a ladder.
From trash cans, chairs, ladders, kendo sticks, and garbage can lids, the match featured everything before it was brought to a halt around the 36-minute mark following Raquel’s pin on Shirai.
The match saw Candice LeRae suffer an injury after being dropkicked by Shotzi Blackheart.
Shirai steals the spotlight at WarGames
The highlight of the match was Io Shirai’s entry inside the ring, which was necessary for the WarGames to officially kick-off.
Shirai was the 8th, and the last, fighter scheduled to enter the ring. She brought a ladder with her but it was kicked by Raquel Gonzalez which prevented Shirai from entering the match right away.
Toni Storm sealed the door shut with a belt, and it took some creativity from Shirai to be able to enter the ring.
The Japanese superstar then dove onto all the fighters from the top of the cage while wearing a trash can and officially entered the match to kick-ff WarGames.

She reacted to the moment on Twitter as she saw the funny side of the audacious dive and captioned the video with “I’m trash.”

Shirai might not have won the match for her team, but this was still an excellent moment.
It was also hilarious to see the NXT Women’s Champion take a bit of a shot at herself with the trashcan bit.
