Pat McAfee is the new SmackDown commentator and Triple H seems pleased with this signing
WWE was slated a lot for their decision to let go several talents just a year after doing the same in 2020.
Some big names, like Peyton Royce, Samoa Joe and Mickie James, were cut from the roster. This came as a big shock to many but WWE might have trying to fix their image a bit with their next announcement.
The Blue Brand confirmed that Pat McAfee was joining the SmackDown team as a commentator. He would be teamed up with Michael Cole and this was another feather in the cap for the former NFL star.
Many will remember McAfee’s squabble with the Undisputed Era and how well he performed in the ring.
However, that was a small role which lasted a couple of months or so. This is a different task as he continues his podcast but also will be heard weekly and possibly even during PPVs.
McAfee did a great job on his first night on the show and Triple H was there to laud the talent:
“A man of many talents and a drive to make anything possible, congratulations to @PatMcAfeeShow for his first night on #Smackdown commentary!”
McAfee was the star of the fight between his faction and The UE a few months back, and it will be interesting to see if his role is limited to one behind the table.
The former NFL star is still in excellent shape and he could get into the ring for some action too. Cole is still doing a great job on NXT and there could be a chance he is moved to SmackDown soon. That could see a lot of sparks between Cole and McAfee.
A match cannot be ruled out for McAfee but his signing opens the doors for a lot of content on his podcast too.
McAfee has been one of the greatest celebrity performers in WWE over the years and he seems excited at this latest role with the company.
