Gable Steveson won the Gold medal in the men’s Freestyle 125kg Wrestling at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Gable Steveson saw off Georgia’s Geno Petriashvili in a close encounter to win the Gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 21-year old had coasted to the finals of the men’s Freestyle 125kg Wrestling.
He had blanked all the opponents he had faced, prior to meeting the Georgian. In the round of 16, Steveson demolished Aiaal Lazarev of Kyrgyzstan 10-0.
He then took on the favourite Taha Akgul of Turkey in the quarter-finals. The Turk had no clue to the powerful game of Steveson, as he succumbed to an 8-0 defeat.
The semi-finalist Lkhagvagerel Munkhtur was battered as well. 5-0.
However, the finals proved to be a bit difficult for the American. The close encounter saw Steveson win 10-8 against Petriashvili.
The reigning Pan American and NCAA Division 1 Wrestling Champion will be receiving a hero’s welcome when he returns to his hometown of Portage.
Just a day ago, WWE Superstar Triple H had tweeted in awe of the 21-year old American, following his entry into the final of the men’s 125kg Freestyle.
Now that Steveson has won the coveted Gold, he congratulated him while also acknowledging how focused he was until the last second:
‘The Game’ tweeted:
“A GOLD-MEDAL celebration!!! Congratulations to @GableSteveson on his performance at the #TokyoOlympics. Focused until the last second, another gold meal for @USAWrestling and #TeamUSA!!!!”
