This week’s NXT made the headlines for several reasons. In an attempt which seemed to be mocking the woke left with their new wrestler Joe Gacy. Gacy made his WWE debut on this week’s NXT 2.0. The debut for the newbie however, did not end so nicely.
Gacy marked his debut by talking about making the ring a safe space, he said (h/t NXT):
‘This is a place where we settle our differences. I come to you tonight with a mindset of conflict resolution where I don’t need to use my male privilege to get what I want. I understand just like you that life isn’t fair. and believe that we can achieve unity and tolerance for us all, and I can be the man that will show you we can achieve peace in this safe space. And it starts tonight!’
Gacy had a smirk on while talking about this and it wasn’t received well by the fans at all. Gacy then went on to lose his debut match against Cameron Grimes. After the match Gacy even pulled in a hug from his opponent.
Fans were made sure by his statements that this was just a mockery. Here are several reactions from the WWE fans:
Definitely not a good idea by WWE to gimmick woke, a community who stands for racial and gender injustice. The fans have not received this gimmick well at all. It is yet to be known whether it was just a one-off appearance or whether Gacy will continue.
