WWE Battlegrounds is set to replace WWE 2K21 this fall
2K Games has made an exciting announcement for the WWE gaming community.
The company will not be going ahead with the release of WWE 2K21 this fall. Instead, a new video game, WWE Battlegrounds, is set to be launched in its place.
This announcement comes after it was revealed during WWE’s first quarter 2020 earnings conference call last week that there wouldn’t be another instalment in the WWE 2K video game series, WWE 2K21, this year.
WWE 2K20 faced a lot of flak from the gaming community due to the number of glitches and bugs.
Battlegrounds scheduled for fall release
Saber Interactive, the same studio that develops NBA 2K Playgrounds, will be developing WWE 2K Battlegrounds as well.
The new game looks a lot like the 2011 WWE All Stars game that many fans have been wanting to see return.

The statement by 2K said:
“WWE 2K Battlegrounds is a completely new WWE gaming experience that will feature arcade-style action and over-the-top Superstar designs, environments and moves. We’re focusing on social pick-up-and-play fun, but with plenty of depth for those who want to get way into it.”
The teaser trailer of the game paints a crazy picture as The Rock and John Cena can be seen battling on top of hungry crocodiles. On the other hand, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch are seen going up in flames.
The new video game is said to have more arcade-style action. It is scheduled to release this fall, replacing WWE 2K21. However, the actual date is yet to be confirmed.

In the same open letter issued to the fans, 2K also seemed to hint that WWE 2K21 is not entirely cancelled. In fact, 2K are seemingly working towards bringing it back bigger and better at a later, unspecified time.
Taking time to fix 2K21 is a good move from the company. 2K20 still has several glitches, and the switch from Yukes didn’t work out too well.
All Stars was well received at that time. And it will be interesting to see how WWE Battlegrounds does too.
