Edge wanted to headline WrestleMania 22 but that wasn’t going to happen

WWE star Edge spoke in great detail about his epic match against Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22.

The Rated-R Superstar was speaking during a special session for Inside The Ropes with hundreds of fans in an auditorium.

Edge claimed he wanted to win headline WrestleMania 22 and was asked why it didn’t happen. He was the first person to cash in the Money in the Bank (MITB) briefcase and win the title, but lost it a few weeks later.

Edge was a heel back then and it came to his mind, he could use the MITB briefcase to his advantage:

“I am a heel, so I should cash this in when somebody is beat to shit and try to win the title.

“I pitched that to Vince [McMahon].”

The former champion added that no one really knew what could be done and he also revealed that only McMahon was OK with the idea.

McMahon also shared some ominous words before the famous walk down the ramp took place:

“I had no idea that was going to happen. As I had the briefcase over to him, he says ‘prove me right’.

Edge couldn’t change the plans

The former champ also didn’t know he was going to cash it in so quickly, but he did have a few weeks to change the script for WrestleMania 22.

“Try and do whatever I can to change those plans in three weeks. Ratings went up, hits on the website were through the roof.”

However, even after winning the title, Edge went on to lose it but he did have a brilliant feud with Foley at WrestleMania 22.

Most people remember that clash from the show and not many can recollect the main event of John Cena vs Triple H for the WWE Championship.

Edge might not have gotten his WrestleMania main event but his Hardcore match against Foley will remain long in our memories.
