The former WWE 24/7 Champion had been a regular fixture on RAW throughout last year.
Elias showed a lot of promise during his stay at WWE. He had some memorable segments with Jeff Hardy and John Cena. Elias was also a part of the inaugural Symphony of Destruction Match alongside Braun Strowman. He was also involved in a segment with The Undertaker.
Elias was also a part of an acclaimed feud with Bobby Lashley. They faced each other in a Miracle on 34th Street Fight as well as a no disqualification match.
As per Ringside News, Elias is under “creative purgatory” at the moment. He hasn’t been released from the company, which is good news for the fans who loved to “Walk with Elias”.
A tenured member of WWE’s creative team told the Ringside News that: “I don’t remember the last time his name came up. It’s been so long.” Elias’ return has been shelved as WWE hasn’t been able to make a concrete character that the superstar can portray. It seems the WWE Universe will have to wait a while longer to watch the exuberant superstar perform in the ring.
Will Elias be back at WrestleMania?
The Showcase of the Immortals has got the knack of throwing some memorable surprises. Elias’ return at the event could become quite a talking point.
If reports are to be believed, with so little time left for WrestleMania, chances of Elias coming back for a match at The Show of Shows looks quite bleak.
About seven months ago, WWE started airing promos of Elias doing away with his old persona. Elias would symbolically burn down his guitar in one video. The clip showed moments when Elias’ guitar was smashed on his back by his opponents. The other video saw Elias preparing his own gravesite. The words “Elias is dead” would be repeated in almost all the videos. He would say that music didn’t fail him but it wasn’t enough. He wanted to become a champion. Since then, Elias hasn’t been seen across the three brands.
That was the time when WWE started making plans about a new character for Elias but nothing came to fruition. Now all of a sudden, if a new character is chalked out over the next couple of weeks, it won’t have enough time to connect with the audience and build a meaningful feud with a superstar from the roster.
Can Elias comeback on RAW after WrestleMania?
The best case scenario is WWE takes all the time it has going into WrestleMania and debuts the new persona on the RAW after the event. RAW after WrestleMania traditionally garners high viewership numbers and the crowd is also full of energy and enthusiasm. It would be a perfect setting for Elias to debut the new character. RAW after WrestleMania has given us many surprises over the years. This could be the biggest surprise in store for us in this year’s edition.
