WWE NXT UK referees Chris Roberts and Joel Allen released amid #SpeakingOut allegations
With the #SpeakingOut movement gathering momentum in the pro-wrestling world, WWE have released two NXT UK referees, Chris Roberts and Joel Allen, amid allegations against the pair.
Only last week, WWE had released NXT UK wrestlers El Ligero, Travis Banks and 205 Live’s Jack Gallagher after serious allegations were made against them. Now, the promotion has cut the two referees, while also another wrestler, Joe Coffey, has been suspended as per The Wrestling Observer.
Allen had appeared in a video released by Twitter user Bella Keeble, who accused David Starr of sexual abuse. In the video, Starr & his friends ask the girl to bring her friends along, who can give them a “wet lay”.
It hasn’t specified if this video was the reason behind Allen’s release. But the NXT UK referee has been cut by the company.
Roberts, on the other hand, has been accused of sexually grooming a girl who was 15 years old, when he was aged 22-25.
There had been speculation that WWE NXT UK might be shut down amidst the #SpeakingOut allegations. However, after a conference call on Monday night, the NXT UK brand will be resuming tapings soon, as per PWInsider.
It was also claimed that Triple H himself addressed the talents during the call. He is reported to have told them what the protocols are regarding sexual abuse. He is further believed to have informed the talent that there would be zero tolerance to charges, provided there was irrefutable evidence.
