Here is everything that happened on this week’s Friday Night WWE SmackDown, including match card and results
The approaching of the Royal Rumble resulted in a blockbuster episode of SmackDown Friday night that saw WWE Hall of Famer Lita return for the first time on SmackDown in two decades and also face-to-face banter between former Sheild teammates. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.
WWE SmackDown Match Card and Results
1.Fatal 4-way no.1 contender’s match
The Usos kicked off the show, drawing a big pop from the fans. Then, they introduced a Fatal 4-way tag team match to determine the No.1 contenders to their titles which featured Los Lotharios, Cesaro and Mansoor, Jinder Mahal and Shanky and The Viking Raiders.
The Viking Raiders built momentum while Cesaro and Mahal worked together to set up a superplex on Ivar. Erik joined in and executed a Tower of Doom spot.
Los Lotharios exploded through the ring and wiped out the competition. However, Ivar was met by dropkicks from the heels. Finally, Ivar joined Erik for the Viking Experience and got the win.
Results: Viking Raiders defeated Mahal and Shanky, Cesaro and Mansoor, and Los Lotharios to earn a title shot.
2. Sami Zayn introduced the In Zayn
Former Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn introduced InZayn, his new stunt show, before two associates wheeled him out in a shopping cart with the idea being to launch him up a ramp over the ring and to the other side.
However, Rick Boogs appeared in the end, distracting him, which allowed Nakamura to attack.
3. Aliyah vs Natalya
WWE SmackDown Superstar Aliyah pinned former divas champion, Natalya to set a new record for the fastest victory in the history of WWE.
It all started on the January 14th edition of the SmackDown episode when Natalya met Aliyah backstage. The Queen of Harts bragged about her three entries in the Guinness Book of World Records, but she claimed she would record the fastest win tonight.
As soon as the bell rang, Boujee Bratz got the upper advantage as she took the attack on her hands and rolled Natalya up to seal the historic victory. Many fans even suggested that she should get an Aliyah 3:17 shirt. She liked that idea and added her meaning to the phrase.
4. Lita returns to SmackDown after two decades
WWE Hall of Famer, Attitude Era star Lita returned to SmackDown for the first time in nearly two decades, joining Michael Cole.
She expressed her desire to compete in the Women’s Royal Rumble but suddenly brought out SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.
Some back and forth between the two, which also included a “big head” chant, and it concluded with a Twist of Fate from Lita.
5. Sheamus defeated Richochet
After landing a Brogue Kick, Sheamus took part in a pre-match segment and promised to avenge Ricochet for breaking Ridge Holland’s nose with a flip gone wrong.
In the end, Sheamus defeated Richochet by the pinfall.
6. Kofi Kingston vs Madcap Moss
Before the match, Kingston delivered the bad news of King Woods suffering Callf injury and will not compete in this year’s Rumble. Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss interfered, which led to a match.
But in the end, Madcap Moss defeated Kofi Kingston via pinfall after landing a punchline.
7. Roman Reigns faces off against Seth Rollins
WWE SmackDown kicked off with a video recapping Rollins’ assignment as Universal Champion contender. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins went face to face after the show. Rollins pointed out how he has won every single one-on-one match between them.
Rollins came back well and even said that he created Reigns and could also destroy him. The Usos came in and tried to attack from behind, but Rollins leapt out of the way and ran off not to be outsmarted so easily as SmackDown went off the air.
