WWE NXT highlights, results, review and grades: Angel Garza got his chance to win the Cruiserweight title from Lio Rush and this was a humdinger of a match.
Garza had gotten into the head of Rush before the clash, and it was the champion who started on fire.
Rush had his moments but it was Garza who landed the Wing Clipper and then hit the reverse full-nelson to land the title.
Garza beats Rush
Grade A
A great match to start the show with. The two Cruiserweights fought hard for the title and it will be interesting to see what route they take with Garza.
Oh, and the new champion even proposed to his girlfriend during the break, and she said yes!.
Raul Mendoza was supposed to fight Kushida last week but Cameron Grimes attacked him before that match.
Mendoza beat Grimes this week in just over a minute, but the real story was Kushida wearing the Technical Savage’s hat.
Mendoza beats Grimes
Grade D
Grimes losing in such a short span doesn’t do much good to him. It could have been better if Kushida caused the loss, and the story could have progressed a bit too.
Travis Banks, of NXT UK, picked up an impressive win over Jaxson Ryker.
The Forgotten Sons were at ringside but didn’t have to interfere as Banks picked up the win.
Banks beats Ryker
Grade D
Banks got the win and it pushes on for WWE Worlds Collide. Ryker tried to get some hits in but Banks got him with the Slice of Heaven for the win.
Dakota Kai vs Mia Yim was never going to be a straight up clean fight after what all happened last week and at WarGames.
That was on show again as Kai exposed the turnbuckle and smashed Yim’s head into the steel.
She picked up the win, but that wasn’t the end of it. The pair continued brawling into the crowd.
Yim got her back as she put Kai through a table and seemed pleased with that.
Kai beats Yim
Grade B
This was a good match and it should lead to a street fight sooner or later. Sending Kai through the table was great, and it will be interesting to see what happens next week.
Fandango was great in the ring after early offence from the Singh Brothers. They isolated Tyler Breeze well but his partner came up trumps in the end.
Fandango and Breeze looked great as a pair, again, and picked up a win over the Singh Brothers.
Breezango beat Singh Brothers
Grade C
Breezango seem to be back and could be in with a shot at the NXT tag team titles. They are an entertaining pair and deserve more after returning to NXT.
Belair was back in action after Survivor Series and looked great against Kayden Carter.
The EST of NXT dominated after a few early hits from Carter and connect with a K.O.D to win the clash.
Belair beats Carter
Grade B
Carter actually got a few decent hits at the start, and that is a boost for her.
Belair did her bit and keeps on rising, and it will be interesting to see what position WWE take with her in the coming weeks.
Finn Balor vs Keith Lee vs Tommaso Ciampa was the main event. The triple threat match had a lot riding on it with a shot at Adam Cole’s NXT Championship on the line.
The trio all had great chances to win with close falls and kick outs galore. Lee put out a second-rope Moonsault, Ciampa hit an Air Raid Crash on the Limitless One but it was Balor who won the clash.
The Prince dropped a Coup de Grace on Lee just after he hit Ciampa with the Spirit Bomb.
Balor celebrated after the win and stared down the champ, Cole.
Balor beats Lee and Ciampa
Grade A
It would have been great to see Lee win this clash, but maybe Balor needs this clash due to his slow time while away from NXT.
Cole vs Ciampa would have been great too, but given Balor’s impact since returning, this should be an excellent brawl.
