Triple H has nothing but praise for NXT women’s champion Raquel Gonzalez after recent victory

The 11th May episode of WWE NXT saw two of the most fierce fighters in all of WWE go head-to-head for the NXT women’s championship.

Mercedes Martinez and Raquel Gonzalez have had a rivalry brewing recently on NXT and this was a matchup that would have settled the debate regarding Gonzalez’s credibility as champ.

And so it did. The two women fought in highly physical battle but it was Gonzalez that lasted the distance and secured the win via a big powerbomb.

Speaking after the match, NXT founder Triple H shared his prediction of what this means for Gonzalez. He stated that it could be a long reign for the current champ, who is already backed by WWE legend Mickie James to reach great heights.

“In her first #NXTWomensTitle defense, @RaquelWWE proved herself in an absolutely physical fight against @RealMMartinez. The beginning of what could be a VERY LONG reign atop this division… #AndStill#WWENXT

Could it be Raquel Gonzalez vs Dakota Kai next on NXT?

What was peculiar after the title match was the reaction from Gonzalez’s ally, Dakota Kai, who has been aligned with the champ since NXT TakeOver in February 2020.

After the encounter, Raquel went backstage to pay her respects to Mercedes for the brilliant fight she put up inside the ring with her.

But that did not seem to please Kai, who was visibly irked by Gonzalez’s actions. The two have been together for almost 15 months now.

And WWE does need a direction for Gonzalez after the Martinez storyline, which is now surely over after their epic showdown this Tuesday.

But it remains to be seen where WWE actually does go with this and if that incident was just something to spice up a backstage segment or if it was to serve as the seed for a future rivalry.
