WWE NXT results and grades: WWE had made the news even before this week’s NXT with many talents released after Vince McMahon decided to take up some cost-cutting measures.
Several NXT talents were also axed ahead of this show, so WWE had to put on a great show for their fans.
WWE was still producing live shows since it was deemed an essential service in Florida, and here are the results and grades from last night’s NXT.
The bad blood between Imperium and Finn Balor continued as the Prince faced off against Fabian Aichner.
Marcel Barthel was also in the ring to help Aichner from time to time, however, it was Balor who came up with the win thanks to the 1916.
Balor beats Aichner
Grade B
This was a decent enough showing for both stars but it just felt like something was missing. Balor getting the win was expected, but it was a surprise he could beat Aichner even with Barthel doing so much outside the ring.
Xia Li missed her chance at the Ladder match to become the No.1 contender for the women’s title thanks to Aliyah.
Aliyah was credit for attacking Li ahead of that match, and it was Li that got the better of her rival in this clash.
Li beats Aliyah
Grade C
Nothing much to highlight here as the match was done pretty quickly. Li getting the win over Aliyah should put the feud to rest, and hopefully, both can move on to better things.
Isaiah Scott faced off against Akira Tozawa in the first of these NXT Interim Championship bouts.
It was Scott who started the brightest but Tozawa kept plugging and chipping away. The Stamina Monster got the better of Scott in the end and even cut a promo saying he would win the title.
Tozawa beats Scott
Grade B
Tozawa is a former Cruiserweight champion and he showed his pedigree here. He goes 1-0 up in his group for the title, and it will be interesting to see how this tournament progresses in the coming weeks.
Raquel Gonzalez had Dakota Kai beside her as she faced off against Tegan Nox.
It was Gonzalez who did most of the damage early on but Kai kept on getting involved in the match. Shotzi Blackheart made a surprising entrance to help out Nox, and she also took out Kai.
Nox took advantage of this with a roll-up to pin a surprised Gonzalez.
Nox beats Gonzalez
Grade B
WWE seems to be pushing this feud a lot more now, and it was interesting that Blackheart was brought into this clash.
Nox is one of the stronger competitors on NXT and maybe she will get a push alongside Blackheart thanks to this feud.
Prior to Lumis coming out to fight Tehuti Miles, we saw Keith Lee put out a recorded promo about his struggles in becoming a WWE star.
The NXT North American champion highlighted that through adversity he had become one of the biggest stars on the brand.
Lumis has been one of the most intriguing characters in recent weeks on NXT, and he easily defeated Miles with an Anaconda vice.
Lumis beats Miles
Grade B
The promo from Lee was good and Lumis continued picking up the wins. We still need to see more of this new character, but he could be the dangerous oddball NXT has needed for a while.
Adam Cole again lied as he was a no show on this week’s NXT before sharing a pre-taped segment of how no one deserves a shot at his title.
That got the Velveteen Dream angry and he came out to challenge Cole before claiming that the Undisputed Era leader is the greatest NXT Champion of all time.
That saw former champ Balor come out and take offence to what Dream said. However, the Dream challenged Balor to a match next week.
Grade B
Cole not coming to NXT was a bit of a downer, especially since this was promoted for a while. However, Dream vs Balor should be an intriguing clash if it takes place, and a lot of questions about the NXT title will also be answered next week.
Matt Riddle was in a bit of a fix as he needed to find a new partner to defend the NXT Tag Team titles. Pete Dunne is stuck in the UK and he announced that the debuting Timothy Thatcher would be Riddle’s partner.
The new pair faced off against Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong of the Undisputed Era. Surprisingly, the new pair showed off some great chemistry and picked up the win in the end.
Riddle and Thatcher beat Fish and Strong
Grade B
This was a surprise call to hand Thatcher the chance to defend the title with no major experience on NXT. Riddle and his new partner looked good, and it will be interesting to see how the pair goes in the coming weeks.
Ciampa highlighted his feud with Johnny Gargano was over and his rival was the better man.
However, The Blackheart was attacked by Karrion Kross and was laid out by the new star.
Grade B
This was the perfect way to start a new feud with Ciampa and one of the newest signings in WWE.
Kross has a big name coming into the WWE, and his feud with Ciampa could be one of the best of the year.
