WWE NXT Results and Grades 17 June 2020: Who attacked Bayley and Banks?

Published by

WWE NXT Results and Grades: Two tag titles were on the line on this week’s WWE NXT.

Bayley and Sasha Banks defended their titles after keeping them at Backlash. The Role Models were up against Tegan Nox and Shotzi Blackheart.

Imperium held onto their tag titles (WWE)

Imperium also defended their titles against Breezango and that is where we start this week’s WWE NXT results and grades piece.

Breezango vs Imperium

Breezango and Imperium clashed for the titles, however, Indus Sher interfered in the match. This allowed Fabian Aichner to get the win over Fandango as Imperium kept the titles.

Imperium beats Breezango

Grade B

This was a great way to start the show and the interference from Indus Sher only shows that they are also in the race for the titles.

Priest in action

Killian Dain targeted Damien Priest’s back after NXT TakeOver. However, the Archer of Infamy proved too strong for his rival and hit the reckoning for the win.

Priest beats Dain

Grade B

Priest getting the win was expected but Dain punching Robert Stone later on was fun to see. Priest did well against Finn Balor recently, and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.

Aliyah vs Li

Aliyah helped Stone to the ring as he was drunk, and he threw up while his client was fighting Xia Li. That allowed Aliyah to pick up a win, finally breaking her losing streak.

Aliyah beats Li

Grade C

Aliyah and Li are talented enough to have a proper wrestling match not incorporating a drunk Stone. Timothy Thatcher also had a segment as he was training some wrestlers and getting them to tap out.

Cole and Lee

Adam Cole came out and said he wanted a shot at the NXT North American title. Keith Lee wasn’t waiting around as he too headed to the ring. However, Finn Balor and Johnny Gargano also wanted shots at the gold.

Keith Lee came out to challenge Adam Cole (WWE)

William Regal made a match next week, a triple threat match for the North American title. The winner of Lee vs Gargano vs Balor would then face Cole in a winner take all match on July 8.

Grade C

Skipping over Karrion Kross wasn’t all that smart but having a triple threat match for the NXT North American title was smart.

However, rushing that into a champion vs champion winner take all clash didn’t make sense, given that Cole needs to create a rivalry first.

Kai vs Carter

Dakota Kai easily defeated Kayden Carter thanks to some help from Raquel Gonzalez. Gonzalez attacked Kacy Catanzaro and allowed Kai to get the win.

Grade C

This rivalry doesn’t seem to end and Carter got a lot of decent hits on Kai before Kai go the win via submission.

Reed vs Ruff

Bronson Reed easily defeated Leon Ruff and then called out Karrion Kross after he was attacked a few weeks back.

Reed beats Ruff

Grade C

It is interesting that NXT seem to be taking Kross away from Cole after what was teased last week. Kross vs Reed could be a great clash, and hopefully, both stars shine in the rivalry.

Maverick attacked

Santos Escobar came out with his cohorts and claimed he will do things differently after giving up the El Hijo del Fantasma mask last week.

Drake Maverick had to leave on a stretcher (WWE)

Drake Maverick came out to fight against the trio, but was beat up really well and left on a stretcher.

Grade B

It was great learning more about this heel trio, and hopefully, they will keep appearing on NXT.

Maverick getting beat up after coming out was expected but he might get another shot at the title soon.

Women’s tag team titles on the line

Blackheart and Nox came out fighting against Banks and Bayley. This was a great match from all four competitors and Blackheart got Banks in a submission.

Bayley came in with a chair to break it all up but Nox stopped that. However, the referee saw Nox with the chair and that allowed Bayley to stop the submission.

Banks then hit her submission to get the win.

Banks and Bayley beat Blackheart and Nox

Grade A

This was a great match and the ending was fun too. However, Io Shirai came out after the clash and sent the SmackDown pair packing.

WWE NXT TV viewership and ratings

NXT, once again, lost out to rival promotion AEW in the Wednesday Night Wars. NXT got in an average of 746,000 viewers while AEW beat them with 746,000 viewers over the course of the show (h/t Showbuzz Daily).

However, both shows recorded decent growths when compared to the figures from the previous week.
