WWE NXT Results and Grades: One of the talking points from this week’s NXT was the clash between Roderick Strong and Dexter Lumis.
The Undisputed Era have decided to target the mysterious character, and it was Strong who was to get the first crack at Lumis.
Another big match saw Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai, two of the best female wrestlers, go head-to-head on NXT.
The Cruiserweight round-robin tournament had one big match too. It saw Drake Maverick clash against Kushida, and that could have been his last appearance on NXT.
WWE certainly packed a lot of action on this NXT and here are the results and grades.
Karrion Kross opened this week’s NXT with a clash against Liam Gray. This was a squash match as Kross, accompanied by Scarlett Bordeaux, easily defeated his rival.
Tommaso Ciampa came out to challenge Kross at NXT TakeOver: In Your House.
Kross beats Gray
Grade B
This was short, simple and effective. Kross looks like the real deal after this squash and him facing the Blackheart could be an amazing clash at the NXT special.
Kross might be one of the big new faces on NXT, but he will be up against the most experienced man possibly on the roster.
The first of the Cruiserweight matches took place with Akira Tozawa facing off against El Hijo del Fantasma.
It was Fantasma that came out with the win over Tozawa and even saved his rival from some hooded figures later in the light.
Fantasma beats Tozawa
Grade B
Fantasma looks good for the title and it will be interesting to see how he does in the final. As for Tozawa, he deserves more and hopefully, gets more chances to impress on NXT and the other brands.
HBIC in action
Mia Yim came out to face Santana Garrett and easily got rid of her opponent. However, Yim was attacked by Candice LeRae and husband Johnny Gargano.
Keith Lee came out to save his girlfriend as Gargano and LeRae ran off.
Yim beats Garrett
Grade C
Yim picking up the win wasn’t a surprise as she is being pushed by WWE in recent weeks. However, the rivalry between Gargano, LeRae, Yim and Lee just isn’t cutting it.
This was weirdness personified by Lumis as he brought out the creep in him. During some holds by Strong, Lumis was staring at his and that unnerved Strong.
The Undisputed Era member also couldn’t put away Lumis with his regular moves, and a surprise pin got him the win.
However, it went bad for Strong quickly as Lumis put on an Anaconda Vice. Adam Cole and Bobby
Fish tried to save their partner, but Velveteen Dream came out from nowhere to stop the UE.
Lumis was left alone as he choked out Strong.
Strong beats Lumis
Grade A
Strong looked incredible during the match but he was just unable to get the better of Lumis with his normal moves.
The end of the clash certainly sets up some craziness. Dream vs Cole should take place for the title again while Lumis will be a thorn in UE’s side.
Ever-Rise were up against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan but this was a quick match. Burch and Lorcan got an easy win and both stars used their submission holds to get the W.
Burch and Lorcan beat Ever-Rise
Grade B
Making Lorcan and Burch look good is the plan for NXT it seems, and they did that with this squash.
They should battle for the tag title soon, and that should make for interesting viewing.
Maverick was up against Kushida knowing that he needed a win. Jake Atlas was also by ringside as his future in the tournament was dependent on his this match would go.
In the end, it was Maverick that pulled off the biggest win of his career with a surprise pinfall.
However, that led to all three stars being on 2-1 in the tournament and a triple threat match featuring Atlas, Maverick and Kushida was set up for next week.
Maverick beats Kushida
Grade A
This made for great storytelling as Maverick lived to fight another day. However, it will be interesting to see if he can continue working for WWE after his next outing.
Io Shirai and Rhea Ripley wrestled in the main event of NXT. The match turned into an all-out brawl later on as both stars were outside the ring.
However, Charlotte Flair came out to see what her rivals were doing. The Queen then was hit by a move and that set her off.
She hit Shirai first before taking out Ripley and celebrated at the end.
Shirai beats Ripley
Grade B
The rivalry between the three NXT stars will continue for a while, and it will be interesting to see what WWE does next.
Ripley and Shirai are excellent and calling for the DQ ensures that both stars stay on a high. Charlotte is doing her best bit as a heel, and a triple threat match would be amazing.
WWE NXT recorded another low in their ratings during the Wednesday Night Wars. NXT has been on a slide compared to AEW, and recorded just 592,000 viewers, according to Showbuzz Daily.
AEW, on the other hand, brought in 701,000 viewers and beat their viewership from last week too.
