WWE NXT Results and Grades: NXT had a lot of big matches on this week’s show with careers hanging in the balance.
Drake Maverick was in action in a triple threat match to decide who qualified from his group. Kurt Angle made his WWE return as a special referee for the Fight Pit between Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle.
Charlotte Flair had to find an opponent for a tag match too, but we start with Maverick as we provide the results and grades for this week’s WWE NXT.
Maverick was up against Kushida and Jake Atlas in a place for the finals of the NXT Interim Championship.
There was controversy in the end as Kushida locked Atlas in a submission and Maverick slid in to make the pin.
Atlas tapped at the same time as the three count and Maverick won.
Maverick beats Kushida and Atlas
Grade A
The story continues, with some controversy, and it will be interesting to see what WWE has in store for Maverick, who was released before the tournament started.
Johnny Gargano came out with his wife Candice LeRae to give chances to upcoming talents on NXT.
Adrian Alanis was the one who challenged Gargano but was easily defeated by the heel.
Later, Mia Yim and Keith Lee were shown having dinner as they took a shot at LeRae and Gargano.
Gargano beats Alanis
Grade C
Gargano doing his heel bit was good but the video segment of Lee and Yim eating weren’t all that great. The pair can fight well and this should be a great rivalry against Gargano and LeRae.
Shotzi Blackheart had the support of Tegan Nox in her corner while Raquel Gonzalez had Dakota Kai in hers.
LeRae also distracted Nox during a section of the match which allowed Kai to help Gonzalez win.
Gonzalez beats Blackheart
Grade B
LeRae being involved in this rivalry is something interesting, though she challenged Yim to a match next week.
Kai, Gonzalez, Blackheart and Nox should be developed into a quality brawl, and it will be interesting to see what NXT does next.
Charlotte got Chelsea Green as her partner as the NXT Champion had a tag match against Rhea Ripley and Io Shirai.
Green played a pivotal role in all this as she took the final hit and allowed Charlotte to get the win.
Charlotte and Green beat Ripley and Shirai
Grade B
Green taking the hit for the win is interesting and WWE can work with that. Charlotte also got the important win over Ripley and Shirai ahead of NXT TakeOver: In Your House.
Adam Cole spoke with William Regal and the GM confirmed that Cole would defend his NXT title against Velveteen Dream at In Your House.
Should Dream lose, he would never get another shot again.
Grade B
Cole vs Dream 2 should be amazing and it could be the Dream’s crowning glory as he picks up the main title on NXT.
Leon Ruff was demolished by the returning Tommaso Ciampa. Scarlett Bordeaux was by ringside to scout Ciampa as Karrion Kross shared a warning to Ciampa before their clash at TakeOver.
Ciampa beats Ruff
Grade C
This went pretty much as expected but it would have been better if Kross was face to face to Ciampa.
Matt Riddle started off with a bang as he knocked a couple of Thatcher’s teeth out. Thatcher told the doctors he was good to go and he was impressive in the clash.
He took a lot of punishment and dished it out too. Ultimately, it was Thatcher that won after choking out Riddle and leaving the former MMA star unconscious.
Thatcher beats Riddle
Grade A
Angle being present made this an interesting clash, but the Olympic champion didn’t need to be there.
Thatcher was incredible in this clash and it will be interesting to see what WWE has planned for him now.
