WWE NXT Results and Grades: The big story for this week’s NXT was the final of the interim Cruiserweight title.
Drake Maverick and Fantasma were facing off against each other with one big backdrop. This could have been Maverick’s last WWE fight, especially if he lost it as he was out of contract a while back.
The other match advertised was seeing the HBIC, Mia Yim, going up against Candice LeRae.
We started off with the two women going head-to-head as we share the results and grades from WWE NXT.
LeRae tried to take a cheap shot on Yim but it didn’t work as the match started. The women then started brawling outside the ring and it ended as a double count-out.
Johnny Gargano and Keith Lee, amongst other female stars, came out to separate the women, and the match was turned into a mixed tag one.
Gargano and LeRae got the win after some sneaky tactics from Johnny Wrestling. Gargano gouged Lee’s eyes with his car keys as LeRae got the win.
LeRae and Gargano beat Yim and Lee
Grade B
Turning this into a mixed match was a smart move, and it laid the foundations for TakeOver: In Your House as Lee defends his North American title against Gargano.
There were several video segments featuring Dexter Lumis, Karrion Kross vs Tommaso Ciampa and Velveteen Dream vs Adam Cole before the next fight.
Isaiah Swerve Scott took on Tony Nese, and it was Scott who got the win despite Jack Gallagher distracting him.
Scott beats Nese
Grade B
The match didn’t make sense as there was no real story behind it. Scott is still a top talent and it is great seeing him, but there should be more to a rivalry, which hopefully, is brewing against Gallagher.
Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong came out for the Undisputed Era as they faced off against Breezango and Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan.
Breezango picked up the win thanks to a distraction from Dexter Lumis which cost the UE the win.
Breezango win
Grade B
Imperium seem to have new challengers for the tag titles after Breezango’s surprise return and win. Tyler Breeze and Fandango looked great as a pair, and it will be interesting to see what is next on the line.
Santana Garrett vs Aliyah was the next match as Robert Stone was still scouting Aliyah. Stone is without a client after Chelsea Green fired him, but was left disappointed as Aliyah lost again.
Garrett beats Aliyah
Grade C
The story between Stone and Aliyah will continue and the pair will team up in the future, it seems. Garrett getting the win continues her march on NXT too.
Cameron Grimes came out to build on the win over Finn Balor recently. The Technical Savage went on to face Bronson Reed and it was Reed who dominated early on.
However, Grimes got the win in the end and Reed was then taken out by Kross, who warned Ciampa about their match at the PPV.
Grimes beats Reed
Grade C
The match itself made no sense given that there is no rivalry at the moment between Grimes and Reed. WWE could have done more to put over Kross as the destructive force he is instead of making Reed the fall guy.
El Hijo del Fantasma tried every trick in the book to get the win over Maverick, however, the former GM of 205 had an answer to everything. A distraction from two masked men saw Maverick take them out and bring Fantasma in the ring.
However, that backfired as he was hit by the Phantom Driver as Fantasma picked up the belt.
Maverick looked shocked but thanked the fans and the cheering NXT stars by ringside, as he reached the entrance ramp, Triple H came out and handed Maverick a new contract.
Fantasma beats Maverick
Grade A
This was a great match as Fantasma showed what he is capable of doing in a long match while Maverick showed off his resilience.
WWE did the right thing in handing Maverick a contract while ensuring that Fantasma got the belt in a win-win for all.
